The University Athletic Association is moving forward with planning and development for a $1.45 billion renovation of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, the home of the Florida Gators, marking a major step in the long-term transformation of “The Swamp.”
The approval allows the project team to continue design work, planning, and pre-construction activities as the project advances through the university’s approval process. The full renovation plan is expected to go before the University of Florida Board of Trustees in September for final consideration.
If approved, the project would become the most expensive stadium renovation in college football history. Completion is targeted ahead of the 2030 football season.
Funding is expected to come from a mix of private donations, capital reserves, and long-term debt, subject to approval from the Florida Board of Governors.
The University Athletic Association said the renovation is intended to modernize the stadium while preserving its defining features, including its historic seating capacity, iconic Orange Wing Walls, and signature bowl design. Officials also said fans will remain close to the field to maintain the atmosphere and home-field advantage the venue is known for.

Planned upgrades include expanded concourses, improved concessions and restrooms, enhanced accessibility, upgraded technology infrastructure, improved video and audio systems, and expanded premium hospitality areas.
Legends Global has been selected as the owner’s representative for the project. Manhattan Construction Group and Hunt Construction Group will serve as the construction management team.
“This is an important step toward ensuring The Swamp continues to set the standard for college football environments well into the future,” said Mori Hosseini, chair of the University of Florida Board of Trustees.
“Our focus throughout this process has been on preserving the tradition, intensity, and identity that generations of Gators cherish while thoughtfully positioning the stadium for the future,” Hosseini continued.
Athletic director Scott Stricklin said the project will balance modernization with tradition.
“This project represents an incredible opportunity to modernize and elevate the experience at one of the most iconic venues in sports while protecting the traditions that make it special,” Stricklin said. “We are excited about the momentum surrounding this project and what it will ultimately mean for our fans, student-athletes, and the future of Florida Athletics. The Swamp will be bigger, better and louder.”
